Golden Ring of Light is a thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and educational sequel to Good Fortune. From the first page I was captured by Leslie's descriptive and in-depth language. It was hard to put the book down, as I wanted to know more and more about the current lives of the Chow family. I am again completely impressed by the obvious research done to provide us, the readers, as much factual information as possible, in order to understand and absorb the Chinese culture depicted.
This is a wonderful continuance of ‘Good Fortune’. The characters are so real and their stories are so easy to relate to. I believe the author’s broad personal experience has give her a wonderful imagination and ability to convey the positive messages to me as a reader. It felt like there were many little hidden treasures in the story. Thank you so much Leslie Bratspis!
I loved Good Fortune so was eagerly anticipating this sequel and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. Once again, Leslie Bratspis immerses the reader in the lives of her characters, new ones and old friends seamlessly blended together in a wonderful tale. Some marvelous characterizations, especially the long-suffering Sue who desperately tries to combine the traditional with the contemporary, and Cindy – no spoilers here so I can’t tell you why I love her character! The otherworldly aspect of the novel, where the Chow family, and as a result, the other characters they meet, are guided by Chow ancestor, Tong and his wife Mei-li, elevates the story to a different level giving it a feel-good factor that stayed with me long after I’d finished the last page.
I loved the characters and the mystic touch which gave them direction and insight. The geography is so descriptive and real and the love for family despite the conflicts tells the reader that we can all evaluate our affects on those we love and change our attitude if necessary. There are coincidences (or are they really coincidences?) I think we have not heard the last from this gifted author.
GOLDEN RING OF LIGHT, the engaging sequel to GOOD FORTUNE continues the parallels and secret interplay between the Chinese Chow family and Michael Hamilton. As before, synchronicity, dreams, premonitions, and Chinese customs add dimension to this unique metaphysical story.
